Pelvic Floor Therapy Intake

1 h
195 US dollars

Service Description

Pelvic Floor therapy is a way to connect a woman to her pelvic bowl, both physically and emotionally. The pelvic bowl is made up of an intricate weaving of smooth muscle and ligaments that attach the uterus to the front, back and sides of the pelvis. Sudden impact such as during trauma, pregnancy or labor can cause these ligaments and muscles to weaken or become stretched. On the contrary, pelvic floor muscles can also be ‘overactive’ due to pelvic surgery, posture issues, trauma/sexual shame and activities that overload the pelvic floor muscles such as pilates, dance, and gymnastics. Pelvic floor therapy is utilized to assess the tone of your muscles and address any muscle imbalances that may be affecting your function. The pelvic floor muscles also coordinate with the diaphragm to maintain pressure in the abdomen, thus acting as the major support system for your reproductive organs, bowel, and bladder. The pelvic floor is integral to the health of our entire abdominal space! All sessions will begin with a 90 minute comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Lantelme. During the initial session, a medical history will be taken as well as a discussion about pelvic anatomy. Each subsequent visit will be an hour in duration and may consist of one or more of the following modalities: intravaginal work, breathing techniques, guided imagery, myofascial release and abdominal massage. After the session, you can expect to feel a new sense of awareness in your root/pelvic region. Many patients report a decrease in symptoms as increased blood flow and energy is restored to the pelvic bowl. Who might benefit? For those seeking: -a better connection to self, their root, and establishing clearer energetic boundaries -struggling with: - pelvic pain: vaginismus, vulvodynia, endometriosis, cystitis, vulvar vestibulitis -pelvic organ prolapse -postpartum recovery -urinary incontinence -lumbar or coccygeal pain -sexual issues/dysfunction -fertility issues -menstrual imbalances Pelvic Floor Therapy is contraindicated in those experiencing the following: -infection -non-consent -first trimester of pregnancy -heavy bleeding during appointment -less than 6 wks postpartum -very friable vaginal tissues
